holiday poem

A Pause on an Island

Stopped effortlessly for a spiritual minute

in the séipéail on this, the smallest of the Aran Islands.

Inish  Oírr. Pronounced “Sheer”.

A moment of salvific sanity

in a complicated technological world

hurtling now towards self destruction.

Rapidly. And anxiously.

A moment of slow even timeless wisdom.

And gentle, leisurely, cultural peace.

No one is an island.

We are one, you know.
